What is Hatis?
A: HATISĀ® is a Hearing Aid Telephone
Interconnect System. HATIS is not a hearing aid. It is a
device designed for hearing-impaired individuals to use
directly with a doctor-prescribed hearing aid equipped
with a telecoil (T-coil). HATIS products plug directly
into the audio jack in virtually all communication and
audio devices, such as cellular, cordless, and landline
telephones, CD and MP3 players, computers, PDAs,
stereos, televisions, and much more.

How does HATIS work?
A: The HATIS product plugs directly into the
audio jack of a communication or audio device. The
electronic signal from the communication or audio device
then travels to a small earpiece that rests atop the
user's ear. Inside the earpiece is an induction coil
that activates the hearing aid via an electronic signal.
The hearing aid acts as the receiver. Because the
hearing aid is amplifying electromagnetic signals that
have never passed through the air as sound waves, it
produces distortion-free sound with a volume and clarity
that enables individuals to hear intelligible sounds
like never before.

Why is HATIS called an Assistive Communications
Technology (ACT) rather than an Assistive Listening
Device (ALD)?
A: Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) imply a
one-way flow of communication, with the ALD user only
listening. Assistive Communications Technology (ACT)
provides an interactive solution, which allows users to
communicate with others on all levels. This ability to
communicate fully with others is what HATIS provides to
users and why it is classified as an ACT.

Why is HATIS better than Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs)?
A: HATIS products are developed with the most
advanced technology available. From the use of gold
connector leads for increased conductivity and clearer
sound to the premium induction coils, which send a
strong electronic signal to the hearing aid, to the
highest quality of manufacturing standards in the
industry, HATIS products out-perform all other assistive
communication technologies available. And through the
unique HATIS design, which avoids sending sound waves
through the air and thereby distorting them, all sounds
heard with a HATIS product are clear and
distortion-free.

Why should I buy HATIS instead of a neck loop?
A: HATIS offers several advantages over neck
loops:
- Unlike neck loops, the discreet HATIS delivers
distortion-free sound with any body movement. With
many neck loops, reception alters as a person moves.
Neckloops are also gangly, require multiple
batteries and are excessively noticeable.
- HATIS is a feather-light (1/4 oz.) device that
fits over the user's ear next to the hearing aid.
- HATIS does not require batteries or a battery
charger as many neck loops do, so users never have
to worry about HATIS failing them at moments when
HATIS is needed the most.
- HATIS products are safer than low-tech neck
loops. There is a risk of strangulation when wearing
a neck loop as neck loops often get caught on
objects near the user. With HATIS, none of these
risks are involved.

Can I test a HATIS product before buying it?
A: Yes. Visit your local Verizon Wireless
retail store and ask to test the HATIS demonstration
headset. Or you can also arrange a demonstration with
your Audiologist.
